Happy Friday!

An important reminder:

  • LAST DAY to place Scholastic orders is Saturday June 6th. I will be placing the order at the end of the day on Saturday.
  • If your child will not be attending NLS for the next school year (2026-2027), please send me an email informing me. *This is not for students who will be attending Alex Munro - you do not need to send me an email*.
  • If your child will be going on vacation/will be absent for the last few days of school, please send me an email informing me. 

Here is what we have been up to this week: 

Art Project with our Buddies - We learned about affirmations with our buddies. We took on an ambitious clay project - envelopes with letters of affirmations. We cannot wait to share the final product with you!

 
 

 

  

 

Science - This week, we learned about vertebrate and invertebrate species and explored some non-fiction and fiction books. We demonstrated our understanding in our Visual Journals!




 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Math - We learned about transformations (translations, rotations, and reflections). We did a lot of hands-on work as well as practicing these skills digitally. Near the end of the week, we started our geometry project - Shape City. Ask your child about this!



 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 




 

Social Studies - We finished up our Social Studies unit by learning about the different levels of government, the Governor General and the Prime Minister of Canada. We demonstrated our understanding by writing down three responsibilities of the Governor General and three responsibilities of the Prime Minister. 

 
 

 


Nose Creek Band Performance - Students from Nose Creek performed for us in the gym. The band and the choir performed 5 songs for us. When your child is in grade 6 or 7, this may be a cool opportunity for them to explore.

  • June 9 – 6:00 – In Person School Council Meeting at NLS
  • June 11 – SPIRIT DAY: Imagination Day
  • June 12 – 9:15 am – Volunteer Tea for this year’s volunteers (If you volunteered this year and plan to attend, please RSVP to mlbrinson@cbe.ab.ca if you did not do so yet.)
  • June 12 – All library books due back by today please
  • June 18 – Subway Fun Lunch / COBS Treat Day (Place orders at healthyhunger.ca by June 13 if participating)
  • June 21 – National Indigenous Peoples Day
  • June 24 – AM Play Day activities
  • June 24 – 2:15 - Grade Five Farewell / Send Off for our Grade Five families. (See Mrs. Brinson’s email that was sent to Grade Five families for details.)

Hello 4C Families! A few important reminders for back to school: Please ensure that you check the blog every Friday as this will be the main form of communication regarding student activities during the school day and upcoming events. Please also read through the Northern Lights News every Friday - found on the school website here. Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media Use in Our School - K - 9 students will not be permitted to use personal mobile devices during the school day. Student devices brought to school must be out of sight and either powered off or set to silent. They should be left in backpacks, lockers or areas designated by teachers or better yet - simply left at home. Please complete the Name Jar activity with your child this weekend! Welcome! We are so excited to be starting the 2024-2025 year with you! This year, our whole school will be using Blogger to make regular agenda posts.  To make it easier for you, you can add the blog right on to the home screen of your phone or iPad by following the directions on the “Adding Blogger to Home Screen” document. We hope this makes the communication between home and school easier and opens up great conversations between you and your child.  The CBE and Mrs. Brinson will be communicating information to you through School Messenger email titled ‘Northern Lights News for ___”. Some important reminders (especially the ones in RED !): Please ensure that you check the blog every Friday as this will be the main form of communication regarding student activities during the school day and upcoming events. To support your child’s literacy skills, I encourage you to set aside time each day for reading at home. Sharing stories together or letting your child choose their favourite books can make reading a fun and enjoyable experience. Your involvement plays a crucial role in developing their love for reading and improving their skills. Every two months, I send home a Scholastic book flyer. If you want to purchase books for your child to read at home, please use the code that is written on the flyer. Using my code helps me gain reward points that I can use towards buying books for the classroom library. You can also obtain a library card and check out books for your child free of cost.
