September 8 - 12
Hello everyone!
Some important reminders (especially the ones in RED!):- Please ensure that you check the blog every Friday as this will be the main form of communication regarding student activities during the school day and upcoming events.
- To support your child’s literacy skills, I encourage you to set aside time each day for reading at home. Sharing stories together or letting your child choose their favourite books can make reading a fun and enjoyable experience. Your involvement plays a crucial role in developing their love for reading and improving their skills.
- Every two months, I send home a Scholastic book flyer. If you want to purchase books for your child to read at home, please use the code that is written on the flyer. Using my code helps me gain reward points that I can use towards buying books for the classroom library. You can also obtain a library card and check out books for your child free of cost. Happy reading!
- To help support your child's numeracy skills, practicing basic facts like multiplication and division at home can make a big difference. Simple activities, like quick quizzes or games, can turn learning into a fun and engaging experience. Your encouragement and practice at home are key to their success.
Here is what we have been up to this week:
Visual Journals - We started using our visual journals. We will be intentional in how we use our books this year.
Math - We are learning about time! We made our own clocks. We also played Power of Ten games to get better at basic facts.
Writing - We wrote about teachers we are comfortable with at NLS. We also wrote about our names - what they mean and why they are important.
Literacy Stations - We started Read to Self station. Next week, Ms. Vashi will add a new station to the rotation.
Social Studies - We talked about the circles around us. We compared them to wood cookies.
P.E. - We played Moustache Ball, Garbage Toss and Gaga Ball.
Science - We created a title page for our science unit - Matter. We also learned some vocabulary words.
