March 30 - April 2

Hi Families!

Some important reminders below:

  • Make sure you are working on your multiplication and division facts!
  • Families should continue to check the blog every week as we highlight the important learning we are doing in the classroom.
Here is what we have been up to this week:

Writing - We began writing our explorer story this week. First, we planned with a partner and then used a TIDE planner to thoughtfully plan out our story. We then began writing our beginning and middle paragraphs. Next week, we will have 2 days to finish up our stories and editing/revising.

 
 

 


Math - We learned how to solve word problems that are related to fractions, decimals and percentages. We also had a Show What You Know. Next week, we will be starting our new unit - Algebra.

Social Studies - This week, we finished up our Explorer posters. Mrs. Desai printed them off for us and we glued them into our visual journal. 

 


Science - We started learning about Earth Systems, our new Science unit. We learned about the four important spheres - lithosphere/geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere. We took a deeper look at the atmosphere on Thursday.

  • April 16 – Papa Johns Fun Lunch / Cobs Treat Day (order at healthyhunger.ca by April 11 if interested in participating)
  • April 22 – EARTH DAY SPIRIT DAY: Wear blue or green for Earth Day
  • April 24 – Non-Instruction Day – No school for students

Hello 4C Families! A few important reminders for back to school: Please ensure that you check the blog every Friday as this will be the main form of communication regarding student activities during the school day and upcoming events. Please also read through the Northern Lights News every Friday - found on the school website here. Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media Use in Our School - K - 9 students will not be permitted to use personal mobile devices during the school day. Student devices brought to school must be out of sight and either powered off or set to silent. They should be left in backpacks, lockers or areas designated by teachers or better yet - simply left at home. Please complete the Name Jar activity with your child this weekend! Welcome! We are so excited to be starting the 2024-2025 year with you! This year, our whole school will be using Blogger to make regular agenda posts.  To make it easier for you, you can add the blog right on to the home screen of your phone or iPad by following the directions on the “Adding Blogger to Home Screen” document. We hope this makes the communication between home and school easier and opens up great conversations between you and your child.  The CBE and Mrs. Brinson will be communicating information to you through School Messenger email titled ‘Northern Lights News for ___”. Some important reminders (especially the ones in RED !): Please ensure that you check the blog every Friday as this will be the main form of communication regarding student activities during the school day and upcoming events. To support your child’s literacy skills, I encourage you to set aside time each day for reading at home. Sharing stories together or letting your child choose their favourite books can make reading a fun and enjoyable experience. Your involvement plays a crucial role in developing their love for reading and improving their skills. Every two months, I send home a Scholastic book flyer. If you want to purchase books for your child to read at home, please use the code that is written on the flyer. Using my code helps me gain reward points that I can use towards buying books for the classroom library. You can also obtain a library card and check out books for your child free of cost.
