March 2 - 6
Hi everyone!
Some important reminders below:
- Make sure you are working on your multiplication and division facts!
- Families should continue to check the blog every week as we highlight the important learning we are doing in the classroom.
- Please book your time slot for our upcoming March Conferences. These conferences are an important part of home–school communication. They help ensure students and families clearly understand progress so far and the next steps in learning. We hope all families can attend. Please make every effort to book a time on one of these two days.
ELAL - On Monday, it was our last block to work on our story vines. We learned how to braid our vines and then put them together (with the help of Mrs. Desai and her glue gun!). On Friday, we shared our story vines with our Gr. 1 buddies! We then started our next writing unit - story writing. We learned about a new planner - TIDE planner - and began planning our birthday party story. We learned how to hook our reader with an interesting beginning, how to write dialogue and finished our first paragraph.
Math - We had our Division Show What You Know on Monday. Our next unit is Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. We started our unit with writing down what we already know about fractions. Then, we did an activity called 'My Name in Fractions' and learned about equivalent fractions. We also did some math stations!
Social Studies/Art - We started learning about European explorers - John Cabot and Jacques Cartier. Today, we started our art project which is related to explorers.
Root of the Week -
We have learned 40 root words this year! Starting next week, we will begin learning about affixes (prefixes and suffixes). I will only be putting up the affixes we learn for the week. If you want to see previous affixes, you will have to check the previous blogs.
