Hello everyone!

Some important reminders:

  • Please see the School Messenger I sent recently regarding literacy and numeracy practice at home!
  • Continue to check the blog every week for important information, upcoming dates, and to see what your child is learning.
Here is what we have been up to this week:

Literacy Stations - We practices some new literacy stations this week. Editing - we have to read a couple of paragraphs, highlight the mistakes and then copy the paragraphs in our book. Word Work - We have to use the dictionary to find the meaning of our 10 words. Visualizing - After reading our paragraph, we have to draw what we read. 
 

 


Science - We learned about the Journey of Paper - how a piece of paper can be turned into something new when we recycle it. We also created our own plan on how to reduce waste. 
 

 

 
 
 

In science, we learned about WHMIS and hazardous materials. We are focusing on flammable, corrosive, explosive and poisonous/toxic materials. Your homework: explore in and around your home with an adult and look for these symbols. Have your child write on a piece of paper what they saw and what symbol was on it OR take a photo and email it to Mrs. Desai - vyvashi@cbe.ab.ca

  

Math - This week, we learned how to compare decimals and round decimals. We also reviewed for a couple of days for our Show What You Know. We will be starting our new math unit when we return from Fall Break.
 

Social Studies - We learned about the provinces and territories of Canada and their capital cities.

  • November 20 – Hoodie / t-shirt orders due for those ordering. See the flier send home to students or the email from Mrs. Brinson for details.
  • November 26 – 6:00 – School Council / Parent Fundraising Society Annual General Meeting (at Northern Lights School)
  • November 27 – Kinder to Grade Five – Evening Parent / Teacher / Student Learning Conferences
  • November 28 – Kinder to Grade Five – Daytime Parent / Teacher / Student Learning Conferences (No school for K-5)

Hello 4C Families! A few important reminders for back to school: Please ensure that you check the blog every Friday as this will be the main form of communication regarding student activities during the school day and upcoming events. Please also read through the Northern Lights News every Friday - found on the school website here. Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media Use in Our School - K - 9 students will not be permitted to use personal mobile devices during the school day. Student devices brought to school must be out of sight and either powered off or set to silent. They should be left in backpacks, lockers or areas designated by teachers or better yet - simply left at home. Please complete the Name Jar activity with your child this weekend! Welcome! We are so excited to be starting the 2024-2025 year with you! This year, our whole school will be using Blogger to make regular agenda posts.  To make it easier for you, you can add the blog right on to the home screen of your phone or iPad by following the directions on the “Adding Blogger to Home Screen” document. We hope this makes the communication between home and school easier and opens up great conversations between you and your child.  The CBE and Mrs. Brinson will be communicating information to you through School Messenger email titled ‘Northern Lights News for ___”. Some important reminders (especially the ones in RED !): Please ensure that you check the blog every Friday as this will be the main form of communication regarding student activities during the school day and upcoming events. To support your child’s literacy skills, I encourage you to set aside time each day for reading at home. Sharing stories together or letting your child choose their favourite books can make reading a fun and enjoyable experience. Your involvement plays a crucial role in developing their love for reading and improving their skills. Every two months, I send home a Scholastic book flyer. If you want to purchase books for your child to read at home, please use the code that is written on the flyer. Using my code helps me gain reward points that I can use towards buying books for the classroom library. You can also obtain a library card and check out books for your child free of cost.
