November 17 - 21

Hello everyone! I am looking forward to seeing all of you next week for conferences.

Some important reminders:

  • If you received a reminder email from me, please make sure you go in to book your time slot for conferences.
  • Please see the School Messenger I sent regarding literacy and numeracy practice at home!
  • Continue to check the blog every week for important information, upcoming dates, and to see what your child is learning.
Here is what we have been up to this week:
 

We are working on building independence and problem-solving skills in the classroom. 

To support this, students are expected to come to school ready to learn and willing to try their best. Mrs. Desai expects students to make an effort when they are stuck; handing their work in without reviewing it and sitting and avoiding the task is unexpected behaviour and does not help them move forward as learners. When students need help, it is their job as learners to try strategies such as asking a friend, looking for clues around the classroom, or re-reading the instructions on the Smartboard before seeking teacher support.

Math - We learned how to add and subtract decimal numbers (using a visual model and the standard algorithm). Next week, we will learn how to solve word problems involving addition and subtraction using whole and decimal numbers. We also did math stations on Friday!

 

 
 
 
  

 

Writing - I created a visual of a checklist that we need to follow every time we write. We wrote a story about a secret garden. We also learned about persuasive writing - which we will practice more next week. 

 
 

 
 
 

 

Science - We created our vocabulary page in our visual journals. We also completed a reading comprehension activity - we are practicing how to THINK while we are reading.

 

Buddies - We played a skip counting game with our buddies.
 

 

Art - We created Northern Lights Art today!

  • November 28 – Kinder to Grade Five – Daytime Parent / Teacher / Student Learning Conferences (No school for K-5)

Hello 4C Families! A few important reminders for back to school: Please ensure that you check the blog every Friday as this will be the main form of communication regarding student activities during the school day and upcoming events. Please also read through the Northern Lights News every Friday - found on the school website here. Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media Use in Our School - K - 9 students will not be permitted to use personal mobile devices during the school day. Student devices brought to school must be out of sight and either powered off or set to silent. They should be left in backpacks, lockers or areas designated by teachers or better yet - simply left at home. Please complete the Name Jar activity with your child this weekend! Welcome! We are so excited to be starting the 2024-2025 year with you! This year, our whole school will be using Blogger to make regular agenda posts.  To make it easier for you, you can add the blog right on to the home screen of your phone or iPad by following the directions on the “Adding Blogger to Home Screen” document. To support your child’s literacy skills, I encourage you to set aside time each day for reading at home. Sharing stories together or letting your child choose their favourite books can make reading a fun and enjoyable experience. Your involvement plays a crucial role in developing their love for reading and improving their skills. Every two months, I send home a Scholastic book flyer. If you want to purchase books for your child to read at home, please use the code that is written on the flyer. Using my code helps me gain reward points that I can use towards buying books for the classroom library. You can also obtain a library card and check out books for your child free of cost.
