November 13 - 14

Hello 4C Families! It was (and felt like) a very short week!

Some important reminders:

  • Please see the School Messenger I sent recently regarding literacy and numeracy practice at home!
  • Continue to check the blog every week for important information, upcoming dates, and to see what your child is learning.
Here is what we have been up to this week:

Writing - We learned about the Northern Lights that happened over the fall break. As a class, we wrote a paragraph about them - using the hamburger paragraph method. We also wrote a paragraph about something we know a lot about. We will continue to work on improving our paragraph writing skills next week.

 

Science - We briefly talked about our new science unit - Energy. 
 


 

Math - We started our new math unit - addition and subtraction with decimals. We learned different ways to solve equations - visually with base ten blocks and the standard algorithm (stacking method).
 
 

Math Stations - We practiced math stations for the first time today!
 

 

 


Buddies - We played a literacy game with our buddies today.

  • November 26 – 6:00 – School Council / Parent Fundraising Society Annual General Meeting (at Northern Lights School)
  • November 27 – Kinder to Grade Five – Evening Parent / Teacher / Student Learning Conferences
  • November 28 – Kinder to Grade Five – Daytime Parent / Teacher / Student Learning Conferences (No school for K-5)

Hello 4C Families! A few important reminders for back to school: Please ensure that you check the blog every Friday as this will be the main form of communication regarding student activities during the school day and upcoming events. Please also read through the Northern Lights News every Friday - found on the school website here. Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media Use in Our School - K - 9 students will not be permitted to use personal mobile devices during the school day. Student devices brought to school must be out of sight and either powered off or set to silent. They should be left in backpacks, lockers or areas designated by teachers or better yet - simply left at home. Please complete the Name Jar activity with your child this weekend! This year, our whole school will be using Blogger to make regular agenda posts.  To make it easier for you, you can add the blog right on to the home screen of your phone or iPad by following the directions on the “Adding Blogger to Home Screen” document. Some important reminders (especially the ones in RED !): Please ensure that you check the blog every Friday as this will be the main form of communication regarding student activities during the school day and upcoming events. To support your child’s literacy skills, I encourage you to set aside time each day for reading at home. Sharing stories together or letting your child choose their favourite books can make reading a fun and enjoyable experience. Your involvement plays a crucial role in developing their love for reading and improving their skills. Every two months, I send home a Scholastic book flyer. If you want to purchase books for your child to read at home, please use the code that is written on the flyer. Using my code helps me gain reward points that I can use towards buying books for the classroom library. You can also obtain a library card and check out books for your child free of cost.
